Thanks for this Inioluwa. So relatable. Sometimes, I feel like leaving people to that perception of me. But I'm learning this too - that people can only take seriously what you give them a chance to see. Learning that you don’t have to stop being funny to be respected, but you do have to let people see the depth beyond the humor.
I resonate with you one million percent. But I'm stuck. This is me. This is who I am..I am funny. But I am also very smart, very emotionally intelligent, very deep, very resourceful. I'm all these things but I'm still the person who uplifts everyone's mood- the funny one.
I don't like that just because I'm funny, you think I shouldn't be the one to lead stuff, even if I'm a great leader. "Don't put Titi in charge, give it to someone more serious"
But yeah, I brought it upon myself, yeah?
Still, I wouldn't trade this funny, jovial Titi for a serious-looking facade. I'm serious, but let me be me abegg.
It’s both funny and sad how people assume that being funny means you can’t be serious. And yes, never lose yourself or dim your spark just to prove a point. That’s not the goal. The goal is to carry yourself in a way that allows people to see beyond your humor without having to shrink who you are.🤎
Is so real, because how would I tell someone that I was thinking about my life and they went, “you? Think about your life? Since when?”
And it bothered me. Because, I had a lot going on, but everyone thought I was okay and I never have issues and I was sinking into depression with no one noticing.
This definitely hit the spot! I can find myself relating, but as the person who’s surprised there’s depth to a friend that acts like a fool. I have a friend who brushes off important conversations, engages in mundane topics, focuses too much on boys, and tends to live in a bubble painted in rose. Not too long ago, I was able to have a deep conversation with her and it really changed how I viewed her! Like wow, you really are capable of engaging in such a manner.
Most of the time, people who react this way mean no offense. I meant no offense, and sometimes it’s nice seeing different sides to someone! Break the cycle, detach from the mysterious persona!! Life is too short to be unknown. 🤍
I’ve had to learn this, too. I used to think it was other people’s fault when they didn’t change along with my changing. Spoiler, it’s not. I can’t expect from them what I’m not giving them.
You wrote it out so clearly and nicely. Thank you.
I like being mysterious 😌😌
No o, Jemimaaaaa.😭😭😂

Perception matters. You conveyed the message, perfectly.❤️

This is branding - what people say about you when you're not in the room. And it's so true
This is solid!
This is me 🤣
Twinnnn?😭😂
Heck yeah🤣🩷
