Hi, I’m Inioluwa, and I attend a private university in Nigeria.
Unfortunately, I also stay in a hostel where running water isn’t guaranteed. Not because we live in some remote village. Not because the school doesn’t have the means.
But because a single, small water tank is expected to serve almost 500 girls. And of course, that math never math. The water rarely goes round. One girl can fetch up to five buckets in one go. Multiply that by 500, and do the calculation. Actually, don’t. You’ll just end up annoyed.😭😂
Anyway, one day, as usual, water finished, and I was tired. Not just physically tired, but mentally tired of constantly adjusting to things that should be basic fgs!
But instead of heading back to my room to “figure it out,” something in me said - “Go and ask” ( Something in me kor, I just said that to sound deep ni o.😌😂)
Ask the man in charge of the water pump to put it on again, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. So I told my roommate and we went.
I didn’t beg. I just asked. And guess what? He pumped the water. He did o. Butt, he turned it off earlier than we agreed, but he still did it. 😒😂
Why? Because I asked.
And that day, it just hit me (Pauuuuu!😭😂)
If I didn’t ask, I would’ve gone back to my room and suffered for nothing.
Sometimes, it’s not that the help isn’t available. It’s that we’re too afraid, too tired, or too shy to ask.
And it’s not just about water.
It’s about life. It’s about being in a school you paid so much for, and still not getting basic things, yet you say nothing. At least, try. Ask, Speak up and see if there won’t be changes.
It’s about working so hard in a company, breaking your back, putting in your very best, and hoping they notice you and promote you, yet you never speak up. Okay nau.
It’s about being in a restaurant, paying for a full meal, and getting half-baked nonsense but you just smile and leave because you don’t want to “cause wahala.”
It’s about being the friend that feels unseen but won’t ask for emotional support, clarity.
No. Please ask.
You paid. You worked. You deserve better.
Temilade Salami always emphasises that we ask for value. “Ask for the value of what you paid”. Everytimeee!
So whether it’s water, recognition, clarity, or comfort, ASK. It doesn’t make you rude. It makes you aware of your worth. And even if they say no, at least you’ll know you tried. But most times? They’ll answer. Because you asked.
So, if there’s something you need today, In your hostel, in your workplace, in your family, in your relationships, in your life. Please ask.
Ask. Ask God to help you, Ask him to help you believe in his love. He literally said ask and it shall be given unto you, as long as it aligns with his will for your life but you dey form hard guy abi?! Okay o.😂
Please, just ask. Because you deserve it, and because this life will cheat you if you let it. No be lie.😂
With love and conviction,
Inioluwa.🤎
Ini please buy me pizza(atleast I asked)🙂↔️😹
Closed mouths don't get fed. Soro soke o.
Thank you for sharing this.
